Update: Winter 2010
Winter equinox has passed, bring on longer days! New road, new dam and new design for the main house! Registered ecohaustas as a business. Graham completed his Resident Building Design Certificate and is pursuing building design and drafting work. We installed solar panels and added a bedroom extension in the 'shed', with a small deck in front of the windows and a enclosure of one carport soon.Straw Bale 2.0
I read this great short article on straw bale bricks. We think it's an very innovative idea! Wish we had worked with a product like this - seems it could make building a straw bale structure much faster and less labor intensive. Check out Oryzatech, the company that produces them.Innovative design
I found this interesting home designed in Chile... straw bale construction with a twist! It seems to be un-rendered straw bale clad with "laser-lite" or polyurethane corrugated sheets on battens. Our goals are to build a zero-energy residence, develop sustainable living systems, gather and share green building technologies and just have some fun along the journey. After spending 2 years volunteering on various straw bale projects (Airstream Travels) in the USA, Graham and Troy decided to make roots in Franklin, Tasmania and practice lessons learnt through our travels.
